list available servers from dmo application object

  • I am fairly new to DMO so maybe I am overlooking something but... I have an app the gets uses dmoApp.ListAvailableSQLServers, needing to see if a local instance (MSDE most likely) exists. Each of the 7 PCs that I tested had MSDE installed. On some PCs, this returns the local name; on other PCs, this returns an empty list. I used SVRNETCN to enable tcp/ip. The server has been stopped and started. The OS is 2000 pro. Any ideas? TIA!

  • Do you get the same results every time? Not much you can do wrong with the method call. Using the SQL2K version of DMO using the '2' objects?

  • After I posted, I got to thinking about the differences. 2 of the 3 that produced no list were laptops not connected to network even tho' they usually are. In all 7, I was local Administrator and not logged into the domain. And I thought that this is too simple to screw up!?!
