Win2k/sp4 + SQL2k/sp2 in MS Active/Active cluster After applying the last critical windows update I cannot create a new linked server or even check properties on existing linked server. The error is like: Your connection will be disconnected. And sql servise got stopped and restarted in cluster. Hey Gurus, need any help, this is the main production server. I called MS PSS, but they asked me if I can reinstall SQL server. Thanks, Markus |

Which critical windows update did you applied? Any error messages in system/application logs on cluster resources?

Applied same critical updates on many servers, including second instance in the cluster, where the first instance only having this problem with linked server. Didn't get any error after critical update was done. |

Do you have a default instance and a named instance on your cluster? This is not recommended, and I will not be supprised if this would be de source of your problem.
When you have a cluster and multiple instances, always, only install named instances and no default instance.
So the remark from Microsoft to reinstall that instance might not be so bad...

Hmm. I'm guessing that updateing to SQL Service Pack 3a (SP3a) would probably fix your problem.
Is the hotfix that you applied for SQL Server? Cause applying a hotfix out of chronological order your service packs will screw you.
