I'm attempting to link a sql7/NT4 Server to sql2000/Win2000 Server on the web. With the following error,
"Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
Origanly I was getting a different error and MDAC 2.6 fixed that.
When setting up the linked server I am using sa login to authenticate. I have done the same from sql/NT4 Workstation which works. I think the Server is attempting to logon to the web server using it's Windows login account.
What am I missing?
I have aprox 2 Months Experience with SQL7 - I hear it might be better to use Windows authentication. if so how?
I would welcome a solution. Thanks

To use windows authentication go to ENterprise manager and you should find your server under "Microsoft SQL Servers". Then, right click on the server name and "edit SQL server properties", then choose "use windows authentication"

In SQL Server Client Network Utility You Should Set an Alias to the server IP Address
With TCP Library , Hoping that there are no routing problems Or Fire wall Filtring Your Server Should recognize the SQL Server That is on the Web (It is not part of the domain you are In)
