Line chart in reporting services 2005

  • Hi,

I would appreciate if someone can please help me.

I need to create a line chart in reporting services 2005.

I have the results in fig1 which i plot in fig 2.

As can be seen in fig 2 then only 3 issue names are plotted. These 3 issues are the only issues that appear more than once in the results in fig1. I assume this is the reason only the 3 are shown.

However, isn't it more accurate to display all other lines also (one straight line for each issue)?

If yes then how can I accomplish this?

The line chart doesn't seem right to me as it is now.

  • You made right assumption. You will not see lines for the rows with only one occurrences. You need starting point and ending point in order to create line. You have only starting point or say ending point in your case. so it will not generate line for those rows.

  • Have you tried a column chart instead of the line chart?

A column chart does not need two points - unlike the line chart.

  • Hi,

The client wants all type of charts.

  • It appears that the client is obsessed with charts.

Cramming too much information in one page/one chart will be often counter-productive.

If the intent is to analyze the trend in faults, there are alternatives.

    One alternative: Use two reports.

    Report #1:

List of all faults in 30 days or 60 days sorted by the count.

    Issue id Issue name Count

2 Mail is in French 15

    9 Error Y 10

    11 Error X 8

    ...

(The # of days can be a parameter to the report). This report shows the most frequent fault at the top.

This has no chart. When you click on an issue, it will show the second report - the trend report.

    Report #2:

Trend chart ( Line or Column)

For a selected issue, display the trend over time (30 days or 60 days..)

This can be a column chart or a line chart.
