Hi
I have created a Cube and Users can view it using Excel to create all sort of Reports. All is well so far.
Now I'd like to limit the view of some Uers to a single value in one of the Dimensions.
1-
In Server Management Studio I left their <domain>\<user> in the Security properties of the Analysis Server otherwise these Users cannot see anything.
2-
I have created a role in my Cube and I have selected a single value for one the Cube Dimension NOT the "general" Dimension.
To make it clear, in the Role "Dimension Data" I have selected the <Project>.<cube>.<dimension> and not the <project>.<dimension> level if that makes sense.
3-
When the Users which I have specified the <domain>\<user> in the Membership Role tab access the Cube via Excel or even the Report Server, they are still able to select any value from the Dimension I want to restrict.
Does anybody has a solution or some pointer?
Cheers

Hi
For anybody interested I have managed to solve part of my problem.
I have removed the <domain>\<user> from the list of Users specified in the Security properties in Management Studio.
In Excel when I select the specified Dimension I can now see only the specified Value however I can still run totals for all the Members of this Dimension when not explicitly filtering by this Dimension.
How can I make sure that the Cube is sliced by that Dimension automatically?

Sorry to reply to my own post again but I have made some progress.
In the Role if I specify a Default Value in my "Dimension Data" tab I get the expected result however from Excel I can still select "All" which really defeats the point.
Any option to prevent Users from selecting "All" in a Role or something?
Cheers

Me again ... 🙂
If you don't want the totals to show in Excel, just tick the "Enable Visual Totals" box in the "Dimension Data" tab of the Role and voila!!
I hope this series of posts helps someone to set-up Roles.
Cheers
