Licensing Question

    We have the SQL Server 2005 Standard database engine and Reporting Services installed on the same server.

    We are considering moving Reporting Services on to a server by itself.

    Are there any licensing implications for doing this? Such as, would we need to purchase an additional license or not?

    Yes, you would have to purchase a license for the second server. MS does not license you to put the individual components of SQL Server on different hardware. The license is for the entire bunch on a single piece of hardware.

    One thing to add to this. Data driven subscriptions are only available in the enterprise edition of reporting services.

    Make sure you look at the feature differences in the editions and license the correct one.
