Hi Team,
I am little bit confused on Licensing.
Lets take a example if we have 3 servers with 4 cores how many licenses we need to purchase.
Is it ok if we purchase 1 license which for 4 cores and install it on 3 servers ?

No, you need 1 licence per core. If you have 3 servers, each with 4 cores, you need 3 x 4 licences (12). If you had 10 Servers, each with 16 cores, you'd need 160 licences.

What if we have 2 Stand alone servers and 1 Active Passive Cluster each server with 4 cores.

So do we need to buy 12 licenses or 16 ?

What's an active passive cluster? You need to be explicit here.

If you have:
- Server A, 4 cores, active node
- Server B , 4 cores, active node
- Server C, 4 cores, passive node, nothing but failover

You either need 8 licenses if you have Software Assurance, or 12 licenses if you don't.

In general (and in specific, really) the best place to go for licensing questions like this is going to be Microsoft. Either by way of a licensing specialist at your vendor, or direct to MS Licensing.
