Fellas, I want to know how licensing should be planned for SQL Server 2008. Is there some sort of bes practice on getting licenses for an organization.

There are not really any best practices to follow, that I know of. It is best to go by the business requirements of your organization. Finding the best license model for your organization and the expected growth is the best thing to go by on determining how to purchase licensing. Matching what features of SQL Server your organization has plans to use will determine what Edition you purchase. Then if you are going to be doing virtual servers can have an effect as well.
SQL Server 2008 R2 licensing has changed around since SQL Server 2008 was released. I have heard that the licensing model is going to change again with SQL Server Denali release (2011). Most likely getting more complicated and/or expensive.
