Hello gents
A quick question, our company wants to upgrade from Sql server 2008 standard edition to sql server 2008 enterprise edition. Since we already bought a license for the standard edition, we just want to upgrade the license to the enterprise edition which we believe costs less than purchasing a new one.
But strangely, our hosting company told us this "upgrade" is not feasible, a brand new license need to be bought.
Have any of you encountered this problem before? And could you please share your experience with me?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, I think you're out of luck. MS does not offer upgrade pricing for SQL Server when migrating from Standard to Enterprise. Same applies to version of Windows Server as well. The only time I ever see them offer upgrade pricing is with the consumer versions of Windows and Office.
You may have better luck if you contact MS directly and speak to one of their sales representatives.
