I've got 2 nodes currently running w2k3 cluster on hp full hight blades, with virtual sql2005 sp3 and sql2000 sp4.
so far so good. 😀
Unfortunately the business now requires an SQL2008 cluster running on W2k8. I was wondering if it would be possible to buy some similar blades (half hight) with same processors and memory and add them to the cluster? Then migrate the cluster to the new nodes and remove the old ones to be reformatted into the W2k8/sql2008 cluster.
The old blades are more expandable than the new ones by the way.

Not done it here but with Win2008 clusters you can mix the hardware, on Win2003 it has to be identical. I think you will have to create a new cluster on Win2008 with the new server, move the databases and then rebuild and add the old servers from the Win2003 cluster into it.
