Legends in SSRS charts

  • I have a pie chart with the legend positioned at the bottom left. I have been asked to make the font size of the data points and the legend kind of big (like 14 pt) so the boss can read the chart without her glasses. It all works great and looks wonderful when the pie has less that 10 slices. However, the wizard we are providing to let her build "ad hoc" reports allow the potential for lots more slices. In those cases, the legend is illegible as the size of the legend box doesn't seem to expand to fit the amount of data to be displayed. Is there a way to tell the legend/chart to grow?

  • i dont think so, but if your chart sometimes has more than 10 slices, maybe, it'll be easier to choose a different style, like bar chart, for readability?

  • I sort of expected that answer, so I have added the ability to choose a report format when the pie chart isn't sufficient. But I had another thought. Is there a way to count the number of slices that the pie is cut into and use an expression to set the font size of the legend according to the number of slices?

  • i dont think so. if you open chart properties, you will see that for yourself, there no way to do it dynamically.
