If you still have questions after going through the top 3-4 search results for each topic, or you don't understand them, I'll be happy to explain.
What happens when we start sql server?
If you want details, I suggest you get the book "SQL Server 2005 Practical Troubleshooting: The database engine"
There's a description on pages 274-279 of the step-by-step operations that the SQL engine goes through on startup.

To heck with google. Open up Books Online. A lot of, most, of the information you need is in there. You don't need to go googling until or unless you don't understand the information provided by the BOL.

It makes you see pretty lights and stuff like that. Was originally designed to give nurses an inside view of psychosis so they could understand their patients better.
Checkpoints are often found at borders between nations. When you issue one, you generally need to place guards at it, and make sure they either understand things like international smuggling laws, or that they give you a piece of their grift. Some things that might "trigger" a checkpoint would include an incoming tank division, or an artillery bombardment.
It goes racing around the track, trying to get into the pole position, so it can beat the other servers to the finish line. A good pit crew can make or break the race.
