KRA for DBA

  • Can any one give me Key Responsibility Areas for SQL Server DBA ?

  • There's a lot here. You might search for or read about the DBA job. However, here's a starting list

    - ensure backups and restores are functioning and being tested

    - secure data, ensure unauthorized access to data.

    - provide efficient response time from the database servers for clients

    - ensure the database is available according to your SLA.

  • what is SLA

  • It really depends on what kind of DBA we're talking about. I'd suggest getting a copy of Craig Mullins book, "Database Administration." It's one of the best overviews of just the job and nothing else that I've ever read. He does a great job of covering the different types of DBAs and what kind of responsibilities each is likely to have.

  • Service Level Agreement. What level of service do you agree to? Will you ensure the database server is up 99% of the time? 99.9%?
