Hi ,
I’m planning to upgrade SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise Edition) with Service Pack 2 (Failover Cluster), OS Windows 2003 Service Pack 2 (32 Bit). Currently SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise Edition) running with Service Pack 2. Any Known Issues? Expecting valuable guidance.

The very minimum build you should consider is SP2 plus Cumulative Update 1. (See KB935356 re CU1). Although SP2 fixed a large number of problems it introduced some new ones that are largely solved in CU1. The latest build is CU5 (see KB943656). MS release a new CU for SP2 about every 2 months, and it is wise for all sites to have a policy about applying CUs. My suggestion is to move to either the latest CU or latest but 1 every 6 months.
You should also get the latest BOL update (Sep 2007) as this includes many corrections on the original BOL.

Question: I thought that Microsofts stance on Service packs and CU was that you apply the latest SP but ONLY apply a CU if you are experiencing a specific issue that the CU fixes. This is because CU's are meant to fix an outstanding issue only.... Am I incorrect in this ?

The problem with SP2 is that *many* things were "untidy" and CU1 made it into a somewhat accepted ( for lack of better words) level.
So CU1 is important!

Great ! Thanks for the link to to patch for SP2. I have not heard when SP3 will be out. I know there are alot of hotfixes that have been released after SP2. Now with SQL 2008 about out I wonder if SP3 will be the last SP for SQL2005.

Will there even be an SP3?

I would hope at bare minimum they would release a SP3 that has ALL of the hotfixes after SP2 rolled up.

Guys, SQL 2005 SP3 has rolled out. I have upgraded my Server to SP3 as I was experiencing an issue with SP2. Are there any known issues with SP3 till date??
I installed SP3 because after patching SQL with SP2 on a newly built server I was not able to view job properties and there is no specific error number and this issue is not even documented by microsoft. I saw some links with Maintenance plans but at last SP3 solved my issue.
Thanks!!

Technically SP3 is not out. There is a CTP (beta) available for download but the page does not hint when SP3 will be released. Anybody Know?
