We are looking for a very knowledgeable mid-level DBA for a company in Westchester, IL. Knowledgeable means strong t-sql, knowledge of DMVs, Extended Events, and knowledge of Systems (Kerberos, Active Directory, Clustering, and Virtualization as it all pertains to SQL).
We do not use the GUI, we rely on scripts so that we have more control. On day 1, if someone asks if there is blocking going on and what the cause is, we expect you to have your own scripts to determine if there is blocking, what process is blocking, why it is blocking, and the ability to see if there is a way to reduce it.
A large library of scripts is expected so that if we ask you to restore databases from one server to another, you will not have to prepare and type a whole new script to restore the database and move the files.
The difference here between this position and a senior level is your experience and your ability to lead people. We expect the knowledge to be equal.
Message me with any questions. Competitive salary, 401k, benefits, telecommute for a full week once every 6-7 weeks. Expected to be on-call 24x7 during that week for emergencies while still maintaining a 40-hour work schedule.

I wanted to add that I am not a recruiter, I am a part of the team and part of the decision making process. That is why my job description is real. I don't expect this candidate to know MDX, BI, VB script, etc. I also don't want someone with 15 yrs. experience who doesn't know the difference between simple and full recovery. This is a DBA position, not a Developer, BI, report writer, data mining, or project management position. This is to administer database servers and make sure that the code deployed on them is good.

Just a thought, but if you already rely on scripts for most work I'd expect you to have already established a library of such scripts to be used by the team such that each member doesn't have to maintain (write and provide) their own set but use the same set of scripts everyone on the team is using. perhaps even having these saved in a central DBA database that is maintained using a version of source control.
Sounds like an interesting position, too bad I am in Afghanistan until February 2015 (or at least that is the plan).

🙂 We do have a library of scripts, but we all also have our own. This is the first place that I have been that keeps this as a company, and we just started it. Plus, I will always have my scripts with me (Google Drive) no matter what, or at least know which sites to go to to get what I need.
It IS an interesting position, but you are probably a it more advanced than what we are looking for. 😎
