Kind Request on SQL SERVER 2000

  • Hi All,

Kindly can you please suggest me for the following doubts.

What's the future of SQL Server 2000 Administration & MCDBA.

Does it required for students to upgrade their edition from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 5000.

Kindly advice me is it good to study or not...

    Thanks in advance

    Best Regards

  • As SQL Server 2005 (not 5000) is not yet out of beta testing, there will be very few businesses using it for production purposes, whereas there are thousands using SQL Server 2000, and will continue to be for years to come.  I would therefore recommend that you study SQL Server 2000 and look to upgrade your skills to 2005 when you need to.  You will definitely need to learn some new skills when you start working with 2005 - there are lots of new features to get to grips with - but if you learn them now, you may well forget them by the time you start working with the new product.

Of course, if you have an employer lined up who wants you to work with SQL Server 2005 now, that's another story.
