journalling

  • Hi

I have been asked about journalling but can find nothing on MS SQL journalling on the net.

Can anybody point me into the direction off knowledge 😀

    Thanks

  • Journalling in what aspect?

  • not quite sure, recently a client lost a lot of data. So maybe down that road

  • That would come under recovery and depend on the backup routines of the database in question.

The only times I have heard of journalling is in finance systems.

I would suggest going back to the powers that be and asking for a more detailed explination of what they are after.

  • Thank you, it seems that he knows the term from working with exchange and was looking for something similar in SQL

  • Primarily then it will be looking at the backup routines.

Exchange journalling is basically a log of what happened and when for compliance and regulation, which is pretty much what the transaction log in SQL does.

  • cool, thank you. I will look into a goof backup routine
