Jobs not running at all

  • Whenever I try to run the job through Database Maintenance Plan and it does not run at all. And If I try to run it manually then it actually does nothing.

In the Next Run Date Column it says (Date and Time are not available) for any new

plans I create. When I right click and say start nothing happens. Its as if new

plans are not being recognized in the system but they are enabled and show up in

    jobs.

I have checked the SQL Agent Services and these are running with the SysAdmin rights.

  • Stupid question, but is the job activated?

Any entries in the job history?

  • EXCUSE ME.......

now let me see whether u r able to resolve this issue and how long will it take for u to solve this.

the problem is that it is activated and there is no entry in the jobs history as well as in the SQL Error Logs coz probablly it never ran.

  • okay, a brainteaser for lunch time.

    What does the job do?

    Who owns it?

    What steps are taken?

The steps are taken as which db user?

  • well...

    1) The job is simply taking a full Backup of one of the User Database which is coming through DB Maintenance Plan.

    2) Its owner is sa

    3) Just a single step of executing the Maintenance Plan which takes the full backup of a user db.

    4) The steps are also owned by sa.

Whats ur MSN id by the way???

  • I have none!

What SQL Server version and SP are you running?

Did you create the maintenance plan via the wizard?

  • Forgot to ask.

    What do you mean by

    quote:

I have checked the SQL Agent Services and these are running with the SysAdmin rights

does this account have appropriate permissions on the network?

  • I am running SQL 2000 with SP3a on Windows 2000 Standard Server with SP4.

Yes I created the Maintenance Plan through Wizard only.

One more interesting thing is that if I make the plan for Transaction Log Backup then it works for that but not for full Backup.

    Any clue...?

  • By this I mean that I have the Log On Account for SQL Server Agent who is having the appropriate permissions means that account has the sa rights in SQL Server and is a part of Local System Admin too.

  • Okay,

    job is activate

    job is executable

    permissions seem to be okay

    partially it is running

Last question from me, before drifting into WAG's:

How large is your full backup and your tlog backup?

  • Well, I am not able to solve this brainteaser.

    Sorry!
