[font="Comic Sans MS"]I am not sure whether it's my sheer bad luck or something but I do not understand what kind of resume can land me a job. I am a sql server dba working in mnc for almost more than 2+ years, and now I really want to make a switch over, so basically either I want to move out of India or stay in India but at least in a different location may be my home town (Bombay). I am currently situated in Bangalore, and finding it difficlut to survive without anyone around. I am bored of that usual 9 to 5 job, at least there is not much excitement left now. Ok...long story short, now I want to post my resume in job portals for e.g monster, shine, indeed etc but I've seen in the past that my profile being a sql dba I am getting e-mails from recruiters who wants candidates for customer service, and I am really pissed off as to why I would get these as my profile is no where relevant to that. I am really not sure what is exactly wrong and why am I not getting the exact match or why am I not getting relevant emails. I also want to know if you guys know the tricks to make a twist of fate on these job portals, basically what to write and what not to add as option in these job portals.
I would personally request if you'll can help me out over here in my job search. I'll be willing to add my resume if there is something that I should change or modify to fetch me a decent job, and yeah I am from India 😉

Hi Faisal,
From the recruiting perspective, I will tell you that I personally don't use portals such as Monster and Indeed to search for candidates. I think a lot of those recruiters who reach out to you for customer service jobs are just blasting anyone they can find and hoping someone will respond. I wouldn't suggest relying on posting your resume on those sites solely for your job search. I would say the best place to make yourself visible is LinkedIn. Make sure your LinkedIn profile has a lot of keywords relevant to the type of job you are looking. Adding as much information as you can to your summary and experience on your LinkedIn profile will ensure that it shows up in recruiter searches.
Also, being active on other social media sites such as Twitter is a great way to get yourself noticed by recruiters. Many companies also have Twitter accounts focused specifically on current and upcoming job openings that you can follow and even interact with.

I am not sure how the recruiting business works in India, but if it is similar to the US my suggestion would be to seek out good recruiters who are local to you or the geographic area you want to work.
The good recruiters will want to meet you face-to-face before they place you, and have relationships with technology managers and HR people at companies where you'd like to work. They are compensated based on your first year's salary so it is in their interest to present you only for positions that are good fit, with the highest salary, where you will be happy.

[font="Comic Sans MS"]Thanks! dan. Probably the recruitment business should work the same way. However, the # of jobs in India is quite few or may be most of them are internal references and the position criteria gets fulfilled so the rack is closed. Even on job portals I see very few companies that are big mnc's apart from that mostly are start up companies they have tie ups with. Its difficult to find a good recruiter but I am planning to do search for recruiters in Bombay. I might not be able to go and meet them in person though but could chat over a phone or may be meet them once when I am there at my native place. I hope I get a decent job with good pay, and more than that where there are learning opportunities wherein I am learning something new if not each day.
