Congratulations Jeff!
This is something well deserved and sadly I missed the posting about this until one of my co-workers came over and told me.
"Your hero was elected the Exceptional DBA of 2011"
I guess that says it all, when my co-workers, who look up to me, know who I look up to and share the admiration.
Now this election will probably swell your head, so remember to run DBCC SHRINKFILE('JeffsHead.mdf') before it gets too big. 🙂

I guess now I'll have to write it 100 times on the blackboard...
It worked with "definitely", so... why not?

Ah, the RBAR! Surely in honor of our honoree, you should have written something more like:
SELECT TOP 100 'country' FROM master.sys.all_objects
😛

This is my favourite version:
;WITH tenColumns AS (
SELECT 1 A, 2 B, 3 C, 4 D, 5 E, 6 F, 7 G, 8 H, 9 I, 10 J
),
tenRows AS (
SELECT n
FROM tenColumns AS tC
UNPIVOT ( n FOR col IN (A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J) ) AS p
)
SELECT 'country'
FROM tenRows t
CROSS JOIN tenRows t1

All bets are now opened.
How many times will Jeff Write Thanks today?
I'm betting 55 :-D.

Jeff, let me add my hearty congratulations and "well deserved" to the clamorous accolades here.
You bring a rare combination of deep knowledge, real-world pragmatism, clear writing, and pointed humor to just about everything of yours I've read.
If anyone who will be presenting Jeff with the award is reading this, may I suggest inclusion of (1) a hefty chunk of rebar, so that Jeff can break it in front of the assembled crowd and (2) a supply of pork chops. :w00t:
Jeff, I'm a better DBA b/c of your articles and postings: thanks.

Congratulations!
And indeed, thank you for all of your insights over the years.

Jeff,
You and the body of work, articles, code snippets and insight have been invaluable to me. You have inspired me to look for more than an answer, but for the best efficient solution.
Thank you and congratulations on this well deserved award. You make being a dba/developer a better position and career.
Cheers
Tom 🙂
