I read this article the day after passing the 70-444 exam.

What are your thoughts on certification these days? I agree that experience matters more, but does a cert still look good on a resume?

I think they don't matter as much. In '97 or '98, you could get an MCSE and be assured of a job (almost) making $50k. A lot in those days. I knew quite a few people, even worked with one in '93 that got his CNE, and got a job. Not knowing anything.
That's changed. The cert doesn't automatically mean a lot, but I think it still helps. Someone posted a link in another thread recently that people with certs made more money. I think they do, mainly because it's a checkbox on an HR form somewhere. Or there's some recognition that you've gone to the trouble of proving some knowledge and studying for a test.
I think everyone's better for studying for the tests. you definitely learn things. But without experience, you don't really "know" a lot.

I wouldn’t say that the value of certifications has declined in my eyes, simply because I have never given them any weight at all in choosing candidates.
