Hello everyone!
I hope you can help with the installation of SQL Server 2008R2 on Server 2012.
Here is my setup.
I am migrating a SQL 2008R2 two node physical cluster onto vSphere 6. I have installed the nodes on the hosts, provisioned RDMs (physical mode), installed Failover Clustering feature on both nodes, created the cluster and added the two nodes to it. Validation of the cluster completes with all green, not even a single warning. Also I presented the storage to the cluster. There disks for data, logs and temp, and one Quorum and the last drive for DTC. Under Storage->Disks the three data volumes are Cluster Shared Volume.
I have created a SQL 2008R2 with SP2 integrated, and running the setup generates an error.
Cluster shared disk available check - Failed.
Could someone tell me what am I doing wrong?

sorry, it's not entirely clear what you have done.
Am I correct in saying that you have a physical 2 node cluster and you have created 2 VMs and provided RDM's to the VMs which you have also exposed to the physical 2 node cluster?

sorry, it's not entirely clear what you have done.
Am I correct in saying that you have a physical 2 node cluster and you have created 2 VMs and provided RDM's to the VMs which you have also exposed to the physical 2 node cluster?
The way I read it was that he has an existing physical 2 node cluster and that he is setting up a new VM 2 node cluster to migrate to.
Are the VMs using the same SAN device for the storage, or are they pointing to different SAN devices with storage getting replicated at the SAN layer? If so I believe you might have to tell the cluster install to skip the disk check.

Hi there,
Thank you for your replies, and apologies for my late reply.
I will try to clarify.
I have created two VMs (Server 2012) on two ESXi v.6 hosts. the hosts are connected to an EMC storage array. I have created 5 RDMs and presented them to first Node1 and then Node2. For this I have followed Setup for Failover Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Service on ESXi 6.0 document.
So far so good. Also, I configured a private and a public interfaces. Validated the cluster several times and it does not generate even a single warning. All is green as I said in my initial post.
I hit a wall when I begin the MS SQL 2008R2 SP2 installation. It fails on the page Setup Support Rules. "The cluster on this computer does not have a shared disk available. To continue ..."
However, under the Cluster Manager->Storage->Disks all disks are online. One is the Quorum, the second is DTC, and there are another three for data.
I hope this clarifies my setup.
I will follow the KB article and see if it applies to my case.

Thanks for the clarification. Were the disks ever brought online and formatted?
Can you post the cluster validation report and the setup log from the failed SQL Server cluster install?

Hi Joie,
The KB article applies to case when you have Microsoft Cluster Verification Errors. The errors in my setup are cluster shared disk available check.

Did you check the iSCSI initiator for the disks? Once we had to re-initiate in order to continue.

It sounds like you haven't formatted the disks and created any usable volumes!
