Windows update tries to install the update and fails.
Ive manually downloaded it ( 64bit as my installation is 64bit). i run the setup.exe, it runs for about 30 secs and just disappears.
the only error i get in the error log is:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Windows\system32\conhost.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.Windows.SystemCompatible,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df",type="win32",version="6.0.7600.16823" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
Ive tried running sxstrace but i am unsure what i am looking at.
Anyone got any ideas?

I encountered the same thing after installing SQL denali CPT3 on a new virtual server with windows 2008R2
I used this tool to see more
SxsTrace Trace -logfile:SxsTrace.etl => to capture sbs errors
SxsTrace Parse -logfile:SxsTrace.etl -outfile:SxsTrace.txt ==> to make it readable.
But still no solution found for this error.

I am facing the same issue.
Presumably you guys found a solution to the problem? If so, any advice appreciated.
I read on another forum a solution which means messing with the registry which seems bizare that we need to go to such lengths to apply a security patch:w00t:

The error message highlights 'Activation context generation failed'. Please check ACLs for the account that you use for Updates.
