Issues during un-installation of SQL server 2016 SP1 update

  • Applied SQL server 2016 SP1 patch on one of the test servers and it completed successfully. I have been trying to uninstall it to see how if goes but I am ending up with few problems. Database engine services got removed with no issues but Integration services are not get un-installed as it throws the following error. Could anyone please help me on this.
Tried to get more information in event viewer, installation logs but I am finding it difficult to fix this,

  • I hit something like that once and just hit cancel, cancel, cancel every time that dialog box showed up. And the uninstall eventually worked but that was a long time ago and whatever issues there were are likely different now. And it was not too bright of a thing to do anyway.
Are you on a non-Enterprise version? I have read about issues on the uninstall in that situation. The following article (which recommends not uninstalling SP1 on 2016) has further details - not sure if they apply in your case but worth checking:

  • I tried hitting cancel button and eventually all other shared components got uninstalled but integration services was not. Yes, I am trying it on a standard edition. The above link says we should not uninstall SP1 if we have started using the new features which are now available for all other editions. But my case is different as this was tested on a  brand new server. Just installed SP1 and tried uninstalling it and it doesn't work.
