Hi,
We are moving to a new domain.
Our old domain will eventualy stop existing (this will take a couple of months).
Our new domain will also have to be able to access our virtual sqlserver instances and clusters (sql2k on win2) using the FQDN (fully qualified domain name).
Using SMSnetworksniffer, we found out why we could not connect to our virtual servers :
When providing the port-nr / pipe-name to the client, the servername does not contain the FQDN !
Is this a bug or did we mis something in our definitions (wherever).
As a workaround we've added WINS to the clients network definitions.

FYI MS has confirmed this to be a problem.
Because the are a number of workarounds (which we described) and we appeared to be the first to report this, no corrective hotfix will be assembled.
The problem is that it all is still designed to be used with netbios (nt4).
We had already described some workarounds :
- add the old domain in network settings domain-suffixes
- add the old wins-server
