I have not much idea about licensing. We have bought the full windows software link from volume licensing centre.
In windows OS installation the keys are provided but after download of sql server ,the key is inbuilt and we can download it anywhere.
Is there not any option of GENUINITY CHECK for sql server like Windows OS.
I mean to say If I have installed sql with enterprise edition for 5 years and after 5 years it should poll me to recharge it?
Please clearify.
Thanks

This is not a reliable setting to ask about licensing. If you take the advice of someone on a forum you are still liable. I recommend you work with Microsoft directly, or maybe your software reseller provided you trust their advice.

Without going out on any limb here.. By and large the licenses are not verified like OS licenses are. However, that does not change your liability. If you have 5 production servers running SQL Enterprise, you better have at least 5 licenses for Enterprise. Many companies think they can cheat, that works great until an employee "in the know" gets screwed (or they think they did) and they blab to MS or someone else and then all of a sudden there are people knocking on their doors asking questions. The news is full of this exact story, over and over.
The licensing for SQL for most clients is pretty straightforward, one server, one license, thats is very often it.. Multiple CPUs, clustering, CAL vs. CPU, etc all add some complexity but still not too bad. Even I can understand the licensing doc.
Short answer talk to your vendor, if you have an exotic or odd install and they say ok, get that ok in writing.. don't run with un licensed software, there is just too much liability and it will invariably come back to git ya..
