In another posting, I received advise on installing SQL Server on a Laptop running OS ME. I appreciate the advise. I am learning SQL and would find it convenient to have SQL on my Laptop. Is there a trial version of the SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition? If yes, where can I download it? There are two trial versions that can be downloaded: Standard and Enterprise but no Personal Edition.
If I can't download a trial version of Personal Edition, is there any way to get the install the trial versions on the Laptop running ME? A friend and I are learning SQL. It would be convenient for each of us to have separate systems to practice with while learning.
If I can't run a trial version of SQL Server 2000 on my laptop, I would like to know that. I can't affort to purchase the SQL Server 2000 Standard ($12K) just to get a copy of the Personal Edition.
I do have a workstation that I can install the trial version on. But it is not very portable.
Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, no, as per Microsoft:
quote:
Trial versions of SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition, which runs on the Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition operating systems, and SQL Server 7.0 (discontinued) are not available.
What may be an option is upgrading your laptop to Windows XP Home edition (another quote from MS):
quote:
SQL Server 2000 trial software and SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition run on the operating systems listed above for the Enterprise and Standard Editions as well as on Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows NT Workstation 4.0 with SP5 or later.
I think the upgrade version (Windows ME is a direct upgrade path) runs around $100.
