Is it possible to turn a drill-down report upside-down?

  • I have a drill-down report with multiple levels. When the report is fully expanded, the highest level appears on top and the lowest level at the bottom.

However, is it possible to turn the report upside-down, with the highest level at the bottom and the lowest level on top? I would like the report to only show the highest level initially, but when I drill to the lower levels, I would like these to appear above the highest level.

If possible, how can I do this?

  • I think just try put the highest level under the lowest level. In other words, when adding the parent group, put the parent information in the footer row.

  • Thank you for the reply 🙂

I am a newbie when it comes to SSRS and not familiar with all the possibilities, so I am not quite sure about the exact approach to do what you describe.

    My report looks like this:

SumGroupLevel is the lowest level and TopLevel is the highest.

The shown order of the row groups is the order I want the levels to be shown when the report is fully expanded, but I want the report to start by only showing the values for TopLevel. When I drill to the next level (SumFinanceLevel), I want this to appear above TopLevel, and so on for the lower levels.

According to your solution, I assume that I should click Add Group --> Parent Group under Row Groups? And then select "Add Group Footer"? I have tried to do this, but have not succeeded. However, I am not sure that I have done it the right way. I tried to add GrossMarginLevel as the parent group for SumGroupLevel, and I selected "Add Group Footer". The report then looks like this in design view:

There are now two columns containing GrossMarginLevel, and another row group called Group1. By adding further parent groups, new columns and row groups are automatically added.

How can I do this the right way? What parent group should I add for the different row groups? And what do I do with the new row groups and columns?

Also, I would like the levels to be shown in the same column, if possible.

I am thankful for any suggestions 🙂

  • I just gave it a try. Attached is a simple sample that based on the AdventureWorks database.

It should turn the drill-down, and the highest level shown in the same column.

Regrading 'By adding further parent groups, new columns and row groups are automatically added.', delete the automatically added column, and then add the parent level Info. in somewhere on the footer row.

  • Thank you 🙂 Sounds promising.

I am not at the office today, but I will give it a try tomorrow.
