I would not expect to be able to install SQL Server Enterprise Edition on Windows XP - hence the error you are getting. The closest you would get to that is to install Developer Edition which has all of the functionality of Enterprise Edition and is intended to be used for software development purposes.

Hello,
The following link gives the Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005:-
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(SQL.90).aspx
As you can see from the table “Operating System Requirements”, Windows XP is not supported for the Enterprise Edition.
There is a similar document for SQL Server 2008 here:-
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
Again, Windows XP is not supported for the Enterprise Edition.
