I'm sure they didn't want to, but I was glad to see Apple settle the iPod battery suit. Their arrogance at times is really frustrating and I read about this quite a bit since I have an iPod and the battery doesn't work well. I can get about 2 hours out of it, but if I let it sit, then it's dead. And not that long! I usually take it to the gym, listen for an hour, but if I then eat lunch, work a bit, and try to listen a bit more after 4-5 hours, it dies immediately. Same thing for long flights, I get the first couple hours and then I'm done.
Lots of others have had similar complaints and I was glad that this got fixed. I even got a letter in the mail explaining how to get my replacement, which is what I want. It's a great product. It just needs the batteries fixed. Or make them user replacable.
That's one thing I didn't understand. At $400, it's not a disposable toy. And how hard would it be to make a battery pack in there? The one thing that Apple consistently does better is design products that work well and have great form factors.
So if you have an iPod, go to settlement page and get yours replaced.
And if you don't, come to the PASS Summit in September and register with our source code ("SSC"), we'll probably give away a few iPod Shuffles as prizes.

Smaller than a pack of gum and much more fun.
Unfortunately if you chew slowly the gum will outlast the ipod.
