Invalid Product Key MSG during Installation

  • I recently purchased SQL Server 2005 Standard and have ftp'd it up to my server. Via RDP I am trying to install it. I keep getting the following msg:

"The SQL Server product key is not valid. To proceed, re-enter the product key values from the SQL Server installation CD sleeve."

I thought it might be the existing SQL Server 2005 Express installation that was confusing it - so I removed it - but I am still getting the same msg.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • You need to go back to whoever you bought it from and get the license key from them.

  • The problem is what is says. The key you're entering is not valid.

  • did you buy it from a valid reseller or Joe's Software Emporium that is run out of the back of a truck?
