Dear all,
in November 2010 we migrated from a singe Windows 2000 Server hosting SQL 2000 (32-bit) and IIS 6.0 to active/passive cluster of SQL2005(64-bit) on Windows Server 2008 R2 and separate web-server for IIS.
Since the migration we have intermittent timeouts from all manner of clients:
•SQL Server Management Studio; occasionally fails to connect to the “SQLCLUS” server, this can be when opening a new query window, accessing object properties, basically anything which would create a new connection.
•Web-based applications; timeouts recorded in IIS logs and Failed Request Trace Logs.
•Windows Forms based applications; Intermittent “Timeout expired” errors
The timeouts are not correlating with any of:
1)heavy load on the DBServer
2)Particular user/group of users
3)Particular databases.....
...they just appear to be completely random
We've pretty much exhausted all of the suggested avenues that Googling has to offer; does anyone out there have any experience of a similar issue? If so how did you resolve it!!!
Current thinking is that we revert to a single node and do away with the cluster although we'd rather keep the resilience, so any suggestions are greatfully received.
many thanks

There have been a several threads about performance problems after migrating to 2005. Not sure if they would apply to you, but worth a look.
