Hello,
I have a sqlexpress 2005 on small business 2003 with UDP PRT 1424 added to the firewall exceptions. For some reason my application is denied access(times out) on the first login(sometimes the second attempt) but will connect on the third. Once connected the application works fine, ie. saves, retrieves normally. I then tried connecting to the database using MS Excel and the same behavior happened.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Do you mean 1434? It should also have TCP 1433. A reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287932
Does this happen if you connect locally? I haven't seen this before, and it's not something I expect. SQL usually connects right away.

Sorry I did mean 1434 and yes I did add tcp 1433 as well but made no difference in behavior.
I have not tried this locally, I'll report what happens.
