Integration Services VS BCP (2008 R2)

  • Hiya,

Just wanting to clear something up in my own head. When Im exporting to an xls etc I usually use Integratin Services to do it. However Im working on someone elses stuff at the moment and they are using BCP to export to csv files. Ive looked eerywhere but I can find now where that tells you the best way of doing this (Wre in 2008 R2) by the way.

Im happy to happy a go and run with the code that is there but if its a case of no one uses that any more because....... then Id rather push for integration services again.

If anyone has any information on this I would be gratefull!

    Thanks

    Debbie

  • bcp exporting to a csv file is used all over the world and probably will be for a very long time. bcp is obviously not as robust as SSIS since there is no option to export to an actual Excel file (among other destinations) but the setup you described will scalle well performance-wise and will get the job done as long as bcp can process the data into a file per the formatting requirements and the data-recipient can successfully accept and process those files.
