Hi!
Having a bit of a problem with SQL Server 2000. It's probably just me being to lame, so I appreciate any help.
I'm trying to install HP Insight Manager, using SQL Server 2000 as database. During the setup, I'm asked to provide an account and database so Insight manager can log on to it. I have put SQL Server 2000 into "Windows only" authentication mode. If I accept Insight managers suggestion to use the master database, I can just enter my Windows 2003 Server administrator account name and password, and everything is fine.
However, I wish to use another database, so I created one named "insight" in Enterprise Manager. But, when I try to let Insight Manager to log on to this database instead, all I get is "insufficient rights to database". This seems strange as I'm using the same administrator account as when I try it with the master database.
I have also tried to change the SQL Server authentication to "SQL Server and Windows", and then tried to log in with sa instead. Then I get the error message "The specified database account credentials are not valid".
I am logged on at the server itself as the dministrator user, perhaps I should add.
Thanks for any help!

That's kind of strange. Not sure how Insight Manager connects, so I'd be sure you know that first.
You might need to Profile to be sure it's connecting with the account you entered and not something else.

It could be that it is trying to use the default database that the user is setup with. Try to use the new database and change the logins default database to the new database.
Let us know.

Take my advice ... run away from the Insight Manager as far and as fast as you can ... it will install, or try to install, an MSDE instance on every server that you build. It's just a mess and has been for the last few years. The issues you willhave with it will far outweigh the trivial benefits you gain.

I am another person having this same exact issue. We have looked at everything we can think of and can't get the stupid thing installed. Any other suggestions out there?
BTW... HP support gave up on us yesterday.

I still say "run, run, run away from it" ...
But if your a true 'masochist' you could try downloading the latest and greatest from the HP web site and burn another CD. Afterwards you will have to download 3 or 4 additional updates to get things "up to snuff" ...

Just leave it selected as master. It doesn't actually use master - which would be extraordinarily bad - it creates a new database for its own use called insight_v50 with a random number at the end.
