Instances of SQL Server 2005 and 2008

    I would like to install SQL server 2005 and SQL server 2008 named Instance with the same name.

    In this case how client connection will be connected to this. ( Will they get 2005 or 2008)

    Can you give some idea on this ?

    Named instance on the same box. Can't do it. Names MUST be unique even among different versions.

    Better question, WHY would you do this?

    Each instance on a server must have a different name. So what you are suggesting is not an option on the server.

    You could configure your clients to use an alias and change the instance that the alias points to. Depending on the number of clients, this might get a bit unwieldy.
