Hello,
if i have a server with 2 instances of sqlserver2005 (one named and one default), the named instance also runs also analysis services, the default intance runs also reportserver. Also SSIS is installad (common). For both instances, dtsx-packages on ssis (msdb and filesystem) run regularly.
1) And I want to add an sqlserver2008 or sqlserver2008R2 instance that does not need reportserver nor analysis server nor package execution (no ssis needed).
Is this possible? Will it not mess up the execution of current packages that run on either one of the 2005-instances?
2) If instead i upgrade the default instance to 2008 or 2008R2: will this cause trouble in the running of the ssis-packages (in filesystem) of the named instance? Will the reports in reportserver be smoothlessly upgraded too without trouble?
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences with this.

adding an additional instance to the server should not cause any issue at all. we currently have 2005 and 2008 running side by side on a test server and this has had no ill effect.
On the other hand if you upgrade the 2005 instance I suspect you will have to edit some of the reports and or SSIS packages before they will run. We have not upgraded a 2005 instance but we have mograted packages with limited success.

If only I could snap my figures and have all the correct indexes apear and the buffer clean and.... Start day dream here.

Thank you Dan. I've noticed the phrase "with limited succes", 😉 so i'll "proceed with caution"
