Hi
I am trying to install SQL SERVER 6.0 in my desktop (Windows 2000 Professional). I need to select Binary Sort order for the installation instead of the default (Dictionary). If I select, binary sort order my installation will not be completed. While installation process, it comes to the point “Configuring Sql Server” and hangs. I have been trying the for the past 4 days. Same problem with different machine.
I have to go for Binary Sort order because my ‘dump’ file is in Binary Sort Order format.
Setting used for the installation:
1. Character Set : ISO (Default)
2. Sort Order : Binary
3. Network : Named pipe and TCP/IP
4. Operating system : Windows 2000 Professional
5. SQL Sever 6.0
Please help me to install SQL SERVER 6.0 in my desktop.
Thanks

Hi Suresh,
SQL Server 6.0 was not supported after NT 3.51. I know there were some issues with installing anything other than the default sort order on NT 4.0, so I'd guess that OS's later than that would also have problems.
It may be possible to install SQL 6.5 and restore the 6.0 dump.

Thank you very much for immediate response. I have installed SQLSERVER 6.0 in Windows 2000 Professional yesterday in one of desktops. It went thr' fine. No problem. I had problem when I build a database from the dump file, becuase I didn't have enough space on my hard disk. So I had to go for another desktop and problem started for installing SQL SERVER 6.0 itself. It was going thr half way and then hangs. It was re-indexing all system tables and then it hangs in "intiating initial SQL Server Cofiguration".
There are not much differences between desktops used except that some other softwares were installed in the machine I was not able to install SQL SERVER 6.0.
I was not able to import the dump file (in Binary Sort Order format) in SQLSERVER 6.0.
Please advice me how to work around this problem.
Thanks
Suresh

How about using VMWare or VirtualPC to create an NT3.51 virtual server, and install SQL6.0 there? Then you can access it from your host Windows 2000 machine.

Thank you very much for your interest in replying to my post. I could able install SQL SERVER 6.0 in Windows 2000 Server in our Compaq Server. I was able to Create database and restore the data.
Now I have another problem while doing that. When I have attempted to create database and restore data..I have given wrong dump file name. So my initial Database was showing "recovering". So I wanted to delete that database. But I couldn't not..becuase it says "you can't delete becuase database is recovering". Next, I went and created a right device, database and dump file. It created the database and I started working on that. My problem is stil I am not able to delete the database that I created first, becuase it is still showing "recovering". I am pretting sure that it is doing nothing. But I am not able to delete that at all. Is there any way I can get rid off that database?
Thanks
Suresh
