I did use the Uninstall feature in Control Panel.
Are you asking for an .avi (or a series of .gif images) for the steps in the install process? JRichards54

Can you post the latest installation log for SQL Server? The one from when you attempted to install and the it failed due to a blocked install.
Also, what features did you choose in the latest install attempt?
September 7, 2012 at 3:36 pm
Thank you Brandie Tarvin. I believe that I have all you asked for this time.
The log and the snapshots of the features that I was trying to install on my last install attempt.
Oops! The .log is not a permitted type authorized for upload so it is not here..
In the feature selection I also (on every feature and sub features) clicked on the little down error and selected "Entire feature will be installed on the hard drive".
I included the "System Configurations Check" so that you could see that I got two warnings on IIS and ASP. Have a good day Sir. JRichards54

Jeffery Williams. You posted: The second item I wanted you to do is to go to Programs & Features (Add/Remove), select SQL Server 2005 and the option to add features. From here - you should be able to see what features are available to be added.
If you cannot add the workstation components, then they are already installed - or at least the system thinks they are installed. If that is the case, then you can go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\...90\binn folder and look for the SqlWb.exe file.
I am unable to do either of these as in Windows 7 Home Premium, in Control Panel, in Remove programs, I do not have an add programs feature. Just Delete, Modify, or Change.
When I navagate to C:\Program Files (X86)\Microsoft... there is no Microsoft SQL Server there. JRichards54
Are you running Windows 7 x64 or x86?
If x64 OS - then this is where you would find it: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SqlWb.exe"
If x86 OS - the it will be here: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SqlWb.exe"
This is, unless you changed the default installation path - which I do not recommend. If you want to put the database files on a different drive - from the Advanced options you would change the option under the data files and move just those.
You can modify the log file extension to .txt and post that.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit version and when I navigate to the first destination I do not get SqlWb.exe, I get what is in the first attachment. I clicked on both of these and one is empty and the other contains only one .dll file.
I have renamed the log file to .txt as you recommended and it is in seccond attachment. Hope these help. JRichards54

I noticed that when I put in Disc 1 of the SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition 64 bit it shows that it is Disc 1 of 2. Then down below when I highlight the Install for all of the Components it says that this choice will require both discs. BUT it never asks for the second disc. What's wrong, please. JRichards54

It depends on what is being installed - if you don't select anything to be installed from the second disc it won't be used.
Have you verified that everything has been uninstalled?

Yes Sir. I have checked "Control Panel" and there is no entry for SQL Server anywhere. I expected this as I uninstalled everything from the "Control Panel" that had to do with SQL Server. That is why I do not understand the blocked install that says "All of the features that I want to install are already on the machine." How can they be on my machine when I had just uninstalled them? Thank you. JRichards54

Stupid question - but did you restart the PC after uninstalling?
If yes, then it seems your uninstall is not completing successfully and the system believes SQL Server is still installed. In these situations I would use something like msizap to force the uninstallation - however, that utility is no longer available by itself (or easily downloadable).
You can check out this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651
If that doesn't work, check out these articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967
And this one: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337087(v=sql.90).aspx
Once you have SQL Server fully uninstalled - then we can begin again with the installation.

Also, if you want to be really thorough, search the Registry and remove any entries related to SQLS. Not all of them are removed by uninstall.
This, by the way, is a must if you change the name of the machine.

Not so stupid a question after all. No I did not restart the PC after the uninstall. I will check out the links that you suggest. But if all else fails I am for reformatting the C hard drive and starting all over. I have done this many times in the past, ever since Windows 311 and Window 95 and its blue screen of death. This seems to me to be the best solution for me but I may be wrong. It sure would fully uninstall SQL Server though.Thank you so much for continuing to help me Jeffery. Without you I would be lost. Thanks Jeffrey Williams. The first link "You can check out this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651" evidently solved the problem that I created when I uninstalled everything SQL Server from the Control Panel and then forgot to restart the PC. When I ran this troubleshooter the first time I selected the bottom entry of the five SQL entries that were listed in the troubleshooter. It then fixed the problems and uninstalled that entry. I had to run the troubleshooter four more times to be able to uninstall the other four SQL items listed in the troubleshooter. All of them showed "fixed" and uninstalled. I believe that I am now, thanks to you, ready for the fifth install. How do you want me to proceed? JRichards54

Just a quick FYI: Next time you reply to someone's post and want to quote it, just hit the quote button instead of reply. It will use the forum code to surround the quote so we can tell the difference between what you're replying to and what your reply actually is.
Or you can surround the copy-n-pasted code with a [ quote ] (without the spaces) at the start and [ / quote ] at the end, again without the spaces.

Thank you, Brandie Tarvin. That is much easier than copying the text and then pasting it into my reply. Makes it easier to read also. JRichards54 🙂
