Hello comunity
I have on my laptop SQL Server 2008 for Workgroup and i want to install the new SQL Server 2008 R2.
What you suggest to do, remove the previous version of SQL Server 2008 for Workgroup and install the new version, or install syde-by-side on new instance SQL Server 2008 R2.
My preocupation, because is a laptop, on side-by-side instalation the space used goes to duplicate or not ?
Best regards

If you have no databases on the current SQL Server 2008 instance, then go ahead and uninstall it (use Programs and features and uninstall SQL 2008) and install SQL Server 2008 R2. I just recently posted this blog Installing-sql-server-2008-r2-explained[/url]

At one point I had SQL Server 2005 Express, SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008R2 side-by-side on my laptop. It doesn't really hurt, and disk space nowadays isn't really an issue, as SQL Server doesn't really take that much space.

Agree with Koen. As long as you are not violating any licensing term, it’s fine.
