Our Infrastructure/Development team have run off and installed SQL Server 2005 on several servers each with its own database. I need to install the Management Studio on mine and a colleague's pc. I am presuming that I can install the Management Studio like the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager and then register each server to gain access to all the servers from my pc.
The problem is I don't know how to do it. My manager has arranged my training but Infrastructure/Development are being unco-operative; they are happy to just log on to the individual servers if they need to. I've tried Microsoft web site but I'm not sure which elements I need. Any help would be gratefully received.

You have to install "Management Components"....
In component selection, you have to select the component "Workstation Components, Books Online, and Development Tools" and from the advance option selection, you have to select Client Components, Connectivity Components and Management Tools...

Thank you, thank you. I've managed to get Management Studio installed and connected to 3 servers. Whooppee
Can I do a similar thing for BIDS (or should I have mentioned that before)? Sorry to be a mither

Yes it should be the same process for BIDS --> install client tools

It seems I have installed it (I tried a re-install) but I cannot see it in the folder. I've got Analysis Services, Configuration Tools, Performance Tools and SQL Server Management Studio; I cannot see Visual Studio.
What do I do next? I know there has been a recent post about silly questions being posted but it can be steep learning curve when you need to get some familiarisation in before your course. Thanks for your help

Do you see "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio"? If not then check the prerequisites for BIDS? It requires IE 6 SP1 as one of the prerequisites.

Have you selected "Development Tools" in Component Selection?

Sorry but I cannot see Development Tools as an option to pick in the Component Selection. I can see that I have selected SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio and it is installed; it tells me that I have to use add and remove programs to uninstall it. It just won't show me it as part of my menus
I installed it as myself and whilst I have admin rights over my machine I wonder if I need to install it as a domain admin (with god-like privileges)?

Try goint to start---> run --> devenv.exe to load this.
Also do you also have Visual Studio installed as well, as it will be avaliable in there as well.

I tried all sorts and then, in rage and frustration, ripped the whole thing out and started again. This time it worked and seems much happier.
Thanks for all your assistance, guys. I had no clue as to where to start and you pointed me in the right direction. Thanks again
