While trying to install 2005 standard edition, the install almost completes and then bombs out and this is the file that seems to be problematic.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\SqlSetup0001.cab
Feedback is greatly appreciated.

What error did you get? Was there anything in the installation log file to suggest a cause?

Error message: There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs or click on help.
When I clicked on help, it took me completely out of the install.
Here is output from the log files:
SQL Server is terminating in response to a 'stop' request from Service Control Manager. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
2008-02-01 13:07:50.92 spid4s SQL Trace was stopped due to server shutdown. Trace ID = '1'. This is an informational message only; no user action is required.

What about the installation log file?
I can't remember offhand where it gets put, possibly in the dir with the SQL bin files

Make sure that the account you are using to do the installation is local admin on the server machine.

Also, try installing under the local admin account (as opposed to a domain account). The local admin has superior privileges, which might help you get over the hump.

Does any one know why the SCC is running like forever and the sql server 2005 installation never finishes? There's never any fail msg seen.
I am trying to install sql server 2005 express with advanced services on an machine with AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU. Does that not Pentium III - compatible CPU and failed the H/W requirement in the beginning and thus stop the SCC from running the full installation?
I had been running the installation for almost 24hrs+. I am hoping to get some insight whether this (sql server 2005) will work on my machine at all. thank you. 😉
