Installing Problem following MS book

  • I am having problems installing SQL Server 2000 using the MS Self paced book.

I installed Windows Server 2000 on a NTSF partition using SELFPACEDCPU as the NetBIOS name and SelfPacedSQL.MSFT as the domain. I created a user named  SQLService. The problem I have is during the SQL Server installation at the Services Account dialog box. I'm supposed to use SQLService as the username (no problem ) and verify SelfPacedSQL  appears as the Domain Name. It doesn't. What I get is SELFPACEDCPU. If I change it to SelfPacedSQL I get the following error message when I try to continue.

" Setup cannot verify/grantlogon as service right to the SQL Server servicelogon account: 1332(0x534) "

If I leave the domain as SELFPACEDCPU it will go ahead and install.

The Domain name is SelfPacedSQL.MSFT and that is verified by my IT guy. We don't know why it won't install using the right domain name. Is there anything I might have done during the Windows 2000 install that caused this. I tried re-installing the Windows server and the same thing happens. I appreciate any help.

  • 1.  Is the machine you are attempting to install SQL to on the network? or is it still just a part of a workgroup?

    2.  Is SQLService a DOMAIN account or an account strictly local to the machine?

    Good Hunting!
