Installing new SQL instance with different regional setting

  • I have installed SQL 2000 (test environment) with regional setting setted to have a collation:

    SQL_Latin1_general_CI_AS.

Some of my collegues ask me for creating an sql 2000 instance with master DB setted with collation (they are using some DB with this collation): SQL_Latin1_general_CP1_CI_AS (English USA).

    My steps are:

Change the regional setting to English USA, install new SQL instance, applied Service pack SP4 and turn back with prevoious collation (I have thought to do in this way because SQL_Latin1_general_CI_AS and SQL_Latin1_general_CP1_CI_AS are similar and I cannot choice during installation in the collation option page).

Is there another way to do it?

May be there will be some problem using a SQL_Latin1_general_CP1_CI_AS collation with regional setting setted to SQL_Latin1_general_CI_AS ?

  • Hi,

I have ran into the same problem with MS SQL 2005 (Standard Edition x86).

I have tested this issue has been fixed in MS SQL 2008 R2 and 2012 too, please find the screenshot attached

Currently I am testing for MS SQL 2008 and will update once I have something to share.
