installing 2005 client on a 2000 named instance

    Hello,

    I have a 2000 named instance which was working fine as a testing box.  I then installed 2005 client tools (evaluation copy). I can see the named instance from the box itself but not from anywhere else - it says server doesn't exist or access denied.

    I have checked and named pipes and tcp/ip are still enabled.

    Can you help?

    I have answered my own question.

    To install 2005 client I had to put xp sp2 on which included the firewall default of being turned on.
