Hello all,
Is it really impossible to enable the LicenseType on a server? Do I have to reinstall and SQL Server in order to set the license? I would like to update the license as we got this information.
I read the following post,
http://www.sqlservercentral.com/forums/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=5&messageid=160544#bm160652
but that (reinstalling an existing SQL Server) seems like a lengthy procedure? There must be an alternate way to do this !!!
Thank you for your help.

From the control panel there should be a licensing icon.
It's been a while but I believe that it allows you to switch in one direction only. That is if you are in per processor mode it allows you to switch to CAL mode but not the other way.

Thanks David.
The licensing icon have the two choices (per seat or per cal). But what I am trying to do is to enable the license type.

There is a registry hack (not recommended) to change the License Type that shows up in the control panel. Not sure that this is what you are looking for though.
I believe you are looking for a way to change the value that is returned when you execute select serverproperty ('LicenseType'), right? On all the servers I tried, the result is Disabled even though the control panel tells me differently. Not sure how that works.

Dewes, if you have SQL Server Standard or higher installed, you will be able to see that icon in Control Pannel (SQL Gurus', orrect me if I am wrong).
Jason, thats right, not sure how to correct this problem.

Did you find a solution ?
All my SQL 2000 Standard present "Disabled" for that option.
The "Choose license mode" in Control Panel shows only the product "Windows Server", not the SQL Server (Windows 2000 EE and Advanced).
Thanks in advance.
