HI,
have a couple of questions reguarding installation av sql2005/2008svr.
Default in our serversetup we have a c(system) and a d-(data) partition. My question is -what is the best practise for installation.
1-installing everythin on the c-drive and only set the userdatabase-files and the backups for the system to d-drive?
2- installtion everythin on the d-drive.?
3-How do i set the system-db to another drive during installation? if it is usefull.
The reason why i wont the data and backup-files on a non-system drive is or the possebility to extent the disk for database growth.
Please come with other tips on setup.

Best Practices are to have a drive (physical) for each system (C), data, logs, and backups on another drive. For really high performance systems it is recommended that you isolate tempdb on it's own drives as well. Now in most SQL Server installs you don't have to do all of this to meet your performance needs. At the least you should have the backups on separate drive from the data and logs. You are backing up in case of some kind of failure (usually hardware) so if your backups are on the same failed or failing drive, you are probably in trouble.
