Install SQL2005 32BIT on WIndows2003 R2 x64

  • Hi,

Just wondering if it is advisable to install SQL2005 32BIT on Win2003 R2 x64 OS? The server has 8GB of RAM so using an 32BIT OS wouldn't take full adavatage of its potential. By installing multiple instances of SQL2005 32BIT this should make use of the 8GB of RAM?

  • You could install the 64 bit version of sql and have one instance.

You can install 32 bit sql on 64 bit windows...i believe sql will have 32 bit memeory restrictions.

  • We are having issues with replication form 64bit 2005 to 2000 32bit.

So if we use 32bit 2005 on 64bit OS. There won't be any issues?

  • Thats a different question 🙂 don't know enough about replication between sql 2005 and its differenet variants and sql 2000 to say you won't get any issues, what problems are you getting at the moment?
