Has anyone attempted and successfully installed SQL Server 2000 SP4
via remote desktop on the cluster?
The reason I am asking is that SP4 readme file has this:
"...
4.3 Systems Management Server Distributed Installation
You cannot install Database Components SP4 from a remote location.
..."
Thank you in advance.

It is possible. If you work with W2K3 I would connect with the console switch. On W2K you can encounter problems. If your cluster is to far away you can try with tools like Dameware, which offer a console.
I hope this can help.

yes it is possible and yes you have to do it from console.
Modify the shortcut target line in remote desktop to read the following
%SystemRoot%\system32\mstsc.exe /console

this means that you cannot install the service pack from a network location.
copy the SP local when you run it.
