Hi Guys,
I have currently installed SQL 2008 for the first time. When I try to connect to the server via Management Studio, I get the following error:
A network-related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL server is configured to allow remote connections.
Can anyone please assist? I know that Surface Area Configuration was removed from SQL server 2008. How do I allow for remote connections on SQL server 2008?
Regards
IC

Can you provide more details? I've been using SQL Server 2008 for over a year now (since CTP5) and I have never had any problems connecting remotely.
Are you using a named instance?
Are you using a static or dynamic TCP port?
Is the TCP/IP protocol enabled in SQL Server Configuration Manager? (Start, Run, SQLServerManager10.msc)
Is the SQL Server Browser service running?
In other words, there's nothing special about remotely connecting to a 2008 instance versus a 2005 instance. Can you ping the server? Can you telnet to the IP:port?
